My Journal
When I first heard that I would be doing a project called a ‘PBL’, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. It seems like a ton of work for only a couple of months to be able to complete. HELP! I need someone to point me in the right direction. I need help breaking this project up into smaller steps. I know I can do it if I can just figure out what exactly I need to do.
My mom’s friend who is a teacher gave me guidance on how a PBL should be done. After she told me a little bit about it, it didn’t seem so bad. I’m amazed at how much math is really used in everyday life. Once she pointed out how I could really use algebra to plan a wedding, I wasn’t as scared of this project. This might actually be fun.
Everyday after school I started going to my mother’s friend’s classroom. We brainstormed different ideas on the design and colors of the project for my wedding. She gave me some great ideas that I could really work with. I’m starting to get really excited about this project!
I started getting really excited to do my project. Yes, it was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. I started looking forward to going to work with my mom’s friend. It was a lot of fun coming up with new ideas. I started thinking about this as if I were really planning my wedding.

I began my Prezi and recorded my voice with background music. It’s amazing the little things that you don’t think about when you are preparing a presentation for someone who doesn’t know about slope and stuff. I want my presentation to be fun and not dry or boring.
I am a very creative person, so a lot of it was easy breezy, I even began to understand the math more. I was really proud of everything I had accomplished so far! This project is actually fun.
I designed a poster board with red sparkly paint, I thought it looked beautiful. I put fun facts about weddings on my board, which ties in well with the social studies aspect of my PBL. I also cut pictures out of wedding magazines to decorate the board. Shopping with my mom for stuff to decorate my board was fun.
I began practicing my presentation in front of my mom and some friends. I had to practice really hard not to sound so scripted or shy. As soon as the microphone was turned on, I’d freeze up. My mom’s friend ended up just recording the whole conversation and then I cut sound clips to match the slides on the Prezi.
I added last touches to everything, and practiced my routine a couple more times, and I finally was done. My PBL looked like a sparkle-fairy threw up on it, but that's okay because I love sparkles.
YAY it’s done! I felt amazing at everything I had accomplished over the last few months. I couldn’t believe all of the things I had learned, while enjoying myself so much!
